AUBREY ARNOLD – ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT + FRENCH FRY FANATIC
Meet Aubrey, one of our newest (well, kind of) members of the Continental Catering family. Although she has officially passed her 90 day provisional period; I mean, she didn’t need 90 days to prove herself to a bunch of awesome, extroverted and awkward people for us to know that we belonged together. Aubrey joined the team as the Administrative Assistant and needless to say, we can’t imagine our office without her. If you so happen to call our office or make a personal visit, chances are that she’ll be the first person you speak to! In her spare time, Aubrey enjoys going to Disneyland, reading and matching her socks.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I am a San Diego native and proud graduate of the University of San Diego. Being a true geek at heart, I am lucky to be grounded by the awesome people in my life and the amazing things we do together. I love movies, TV, books, theatre, traveling, donuts, anything Disney and of course my favorite holiday is Halloween. I have a bucket list a mile long and I work every day to try and cross things off only to add more. I am happy to be at Continental Catering and grateful for the opportunity to grow. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me here. “
Describe yourself in five words.
“Practically Perfect In Every Way,” She says while chuckling.
What does your dream day look like?
“Disneyland would be closed to everyone but me and my friends. We would ride all the rides without any lines, eat at Club 33, dance in the parade, lay in the middle of Main Street to watch the fireworks, have a front row seat to Fantasmic, an unlimited supply of churros, then end the night sleeping in the Dream Suite.”
What is your favorite quote and why?
“Sometime you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” –Dr. Seuss
This is my favorite quote because it reminds me to appreciate everything.
If you could host a dinner for 1 person (dead or alive), who would it be and what would you serve?
J.K. Rowling and I would serve chocolate cookies and butterbeer, obviously.
What is your biggest success up until now?
The happiness I’ve gained from my family, friends, travels and fandoms.

Although we are aware that not everyone loves vegetables (….especially when they’re green) we recently had a tasting for a couple who are living the meat-free life and still loving food while doing so. Being a catering company, we had no problem customizing a menu to fit their needs, and in the process we just so happened to create some exciting new recipes that we could add to our everyday menus! So even if you’re not dying to eat your peas and carrots come dinner time like the good ol’ days, our office Meatatarian (Charles Russell) had no problem stuffing his face with some of these healthy alternatives!

CHELSEA GUSTAFSON- Sales Coordinator + Macaroon Maven
Kind, fun, and adventurous. If we had three words to describe Chelsea Gustafson, our new sales coordinator and macaroon maven, these would be them. She isn’t your typical twenty-something college recruit. At her young age, she can tout having a B.S. in Food Service and Beverage Management with a minor in International Hospitality Operations Management and an A.S. in Baking and Pastry Arts from Johnson & Wales University. But why stop there? She also has a degree in Professional French Pastries from the École Nationale Supérieure de la Pâtisserie in Yssingeaux, France, and studied abroad at Spermalie, School of International Tourism in Bruges, Belgium. We’ll also casually throw in the fact that she’s on her way to becoming a Cicerone. Impressed yet? She bakes, she brews; we’d be amiss if her cookery doesn’t put a huge smile on your face.
So she cooks but can she sing? Not only was she once part of an all girls acapella group, but she plays the piano, clarinet, and ukulele. At this point it might be faster to start listing the things she can’t do. Chelsea has an utter lack of hand-eye coordination which makes her extremely sports challenged (her words, not ours). Ummm…we think that’s it for what she can’t do. Give us a call to chat with her and give her your best challenge. You’ll love her passion for tackling the unknown with the smile that makes her stand out in a crowd.
Needless to say, we’re thrilled to have her on our team! You’ll be sure to love her as much as we do.

Last month we had the pleasure of catering the San Diego wedding of Bart and Janelle (who might just be the cutest couple in San Diego) at the Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla. The couple and their guests enjoyed an array of artisan cheeses, ceviche, crab cakes, sauteed pasta, london broil–just to name a few–for an eclectic, yet scrumptious dinner. The Sweetest Trend
We’ll be honest: here at Continental Catering we’re not really into getting behind a trend unless we’ve started it. The ice cream sandwich, however, totally changed our minds on the subject. Hallelujah! How could it not? What could be better than delicious sandwiched between more delicious? Not much as far as we’re concerned.
THE COMBINATIONS:
What we’re particularly loving about the ice cream sandwich trend is the variety that is popping up all over the country. We thought that the basic ice cream sandwich was good but we had no idea what was to come! Now the options are limited only by our imagination and creativity. Once we get past the ingenious ice cream combinations (ice creamery, Salt & Straw, has flavors like Pear with Blue Cheese and Bone Marrow with Smoked Bourbon Cherries), we can get creative on what to actually sandwich the creamy goodness with. Oh yeah! Now we’re talking…
From freshly baked cookies to pies to waffles, the sandwich can be made with practically anything that our heart desires. There is even a macaroon ice cream sandwich! Be still our hearts. Oh, and we’ve even found s’more ice cream sandwiches. Talk about delicious overload!

The Board:
There are color combinations that will remain classic and timeless through the years. Much like black and white, navy and yellow is a classic and chic pairing that although innately elegant and preppy, also has a playful side. It is safe to say that it is one of our favorite color pairings so it only seemed appropriate to dedicate a mood board to the navy-yellow wedding of our dreams.
The Process:
What anchored the board was the super adorable bride holding a yellow bouquet. She is a bride that doesn’t take herself too seriously but still enjoys the classic with a twist. The neutrals like dove grey, tan, and navy blue anchor the color scheme and allow the pops of yellow to make a statement without being overpowering. The result: a whimsical, yet refined navy-yellow wedding fit for a fun and fierce bride.

For the second installment of our mood board series, we imagined the wedding of the gorgeous bride at the top left corner of the board. With her luscious floral crown and ethereal veil, we knew her wedding had to be a romantic affair with touches of whimsy and a nod to vintage styling.
She is pure and innocent but doesn’t take herself too seriously and likes to have fun. You’ll notice bright and abundant flowers sprinkled throughout and handwritten elements on the cake and table number for the touch of whimsy the bride exudes. The palette is neutral with bright pops of orange and hot pink. It’s the perfect springtime fête! You can count is in at this wedding!
